It’s hard for most people to understand why a survivor would feel anything but normal when treatment ends, but we have so much more going on in our minds than we could ever have imagined.
One of those ideas that can have a huge impact on recovery, self-image, and self-worth is shame.
Shame is the emotion that comes up when we tell ourselves stories like:
-I must have done something wrong to deserve cancer.
-I must be a bad person in some way because I had cancer.
-I’m no longer as complete, whole, or worthy as other people who have not had cancer.
